My service in the Peace Corps Costa Rica (2023-2025) was a transformative journey of cultural immersion, community collaboration, and personal growth. Working alongside local counterparts, I gained valuable skills in sustainable development, cross-cultural communication, and grassroots leadership. From environmental education initiatives to community empowerment projects, every challenge made me more resilient and adaptable. For my best attempt at summarizing two amazing years of service concisely, visit my page about Peace Corps.
The best photography advice I’ve ever received: Shoot people—landscapes may dazzle, but people breathe with stories. A mountain stays still, but a human moment never repeats.
This philosophy guides my work as a first-generation Iranian-American photographer exploring diaspora identity and cross-cultural belonging.
With a business background, I also bring a strategic perspective to visual storytelling for social impact initiatives. My work explores the interplay of humanity and the environment—always seeking to reveal the unseen stories and the beautiful world all around us. Explore some of my work on the Photography page.
Tracing my ancestors’ lives has reshaped my understanding of my own identity, revealing how their choices, cultures, and resilience live on in me. Every name uncovered, every story preserved, feels like a part of the bigger puzzle. This isn’t just a map of the past; it’s the foundation of my present. To explore the roots that ground me and the stories that define me, check out my family tree (which is still under construction).
Cal Poly SLO offered me a comprehensive and enriching education, spanning multiple disciplines. Through numerous hands-on experiences, I gained more knowledge and skills than I ever imagined possible. For a glimpse into the projects I've contributed to, courses I've excelled in, and other valuable experiences from my time at Cal Poly SLO, please explore my portfolio here: portfolium.com/HannaZahabi.
I can't wait to share these projects here soon :)
